OnyX is the little application that could help you optimize and take full control of your System Performance, it is a small but powerful toolbar packed with excellent features to extend the already known efficiency of Mac OS X. OnyX is a ultra powerful System maintenance with countless tweakable features and parameters that brings peace of mind when it comes to keep your Mac OS X fresh and responsible.

OnyX is a Universal Binary application that can optimize Systems with Intel and PowerPC processors, it is highly recommended to login with an administrator account in order to use OnyX critical features.

Onyx Toolbar

This is OnyX main window, from the Toolbar you can access all the features and resources, control, turn on and off, delete and remove and optimize the System.

Verify Tab

In this section you can Diagnostic your hard disk for failure, damages and System File Structure, it can only Diagnostic Serial ATA disks, Firewire and SCSI are not supported.

Maintenance

In this section is where you can Rebuild Spotlight, repair Permissions and Ownerships and remove all .DS files that may hold any information.

Cleaning

In Cleaning you can delete the Caches Files for almost all Applications, browsers, quicktime, system, logs, recent items, cookies and more.

Utility

Here you can get information about the Manual Commands, Delete all your trashed files and locate any information inside any system files.

Automation

Set all your critical maintenances and let OnyX does the rest.

Parameters

Parameters represents the most important Tab of OnyX, here you can completely control the whole System, The Finder, The Dock effects and animations, Exposé and Dashboard, Safari, Login items, Spotlight, The Disk Utility, Control the Terminal and iTunes.

OnyX is a powerful tool for optimization, maintenance and personalization of Mac OS X, it comes with pretty decent set of features to help you get the most out of you computer. It is a freeware (DonationWare) utility available in all the Mac OS X flavors (Mac OS X 10.4 (OnyX for Tiger), Mac OS X 10.3 (OnyX for Panther) and Mac OS X 10.2 (OnyX for Jaguar)).

If We were to compare OnyX against our previously revisited Utilities then OnyX is the real winner so far, it does much more for its cost (free), but this race is not over yet, but write in your scorecard that OnyX is by far the most Economy-Wise choice.
