pligg_10_tutorial

Pligg open source project is getting better and better and this time they are launching a release candidate for their major update, the RC1 is almost perfect, it comes with nice features, it feels faster and more mature, but we are always looking to adjust things to our needs and in this small tutorial I will show you how to make a few changes to the Wistie template that comes with Pligg 1.0.

The Wistie template by itself is a clean and nicely done template and can be used without any major problem, but I would like to have a top banner for my Mac related news aggregator site Macevangelism.com and this is how it is done:

1. Design your Site identification banner in Photoshop or any other graphic manipulator program, Macevangelism.com is 960 pixels by 104 pixels.

2. Save it to JPG, PNG or Gif.

3. Upload it to your server.

4. Go to your Template folder, look for the Whistie folder and open the header.tpl file.

5. Inside the header.tpl look for the logo DIV located at the top:

6. Place your logo or banner inside the logo DIV.

Something like this:

<div id=”logo”> <div align=”left”><a href=”http://www.macevangelism.com”><img src=”http://macevangelism.com/images/macevangelism_logo.jpg” alt=”all things mac, mac os 9, mac os x, macintosh, macworld, macbook, imac, iwork, ilife, newton, apple, apple macintosh, mac evangelism, mac news, dock, G3, G4, G6, ipod, iphone, apple mail, apple, powermac, mobileme” width=”960″ height=”104″ border=”0″ /></a></div> </div>

<div id=”logo”> <div align=”left”><a href=”http://www.YOUR SITE.com”><img src=”http://ADDRESS FOR YOUR IMAGE/banner_logo.jpg” alt=”A LITTLE SEO HELP HERE” width=”960″ height=”104″ border=”0″ /></a></div> </div>

Replace the uppercase words with the correct address and image name in your server.

7. Save your header.tpl file and upload it to your Whistie folder in your template.

8. Message me at Pligg Forum [desinformado], if it doesn’t work correctly for you.
